  1. Consider the type of your business.

    Think about the activity and storage requirements of your business before buying industrial shelving units. Your business may fall into one of these four categories:
  • Low activity and low storage requirements
  • Low activity with high storage requirements
  • High activity with low storage requirements
  • High activity with high storage requirements
    Identifying which category your business correctly fits will help you pick a pallet rack system with the proper capacity for your business.

  1. Consider the dimensions of your warehouse.

    The number of industrial shelving units and the size of them should be determined according to your needs and the dimensions of your warehouse. Also, make sure to leave room for the turning radius of the forklift when planning your isles.
  2. Consider the type of lift truck you will use.

    The length of the pallet rack beam should be based on the type of lift truck you will be using. For a counter balanced pallet truck take into consideration the width of the pallet or load and the number of loads between upright frames. For a straddle or an outrigger pallet truck, consider the maximum width of load or outriggers and the number of loads across.
  3. Determine the pallet rack beam capacity.
